In Bengaluru, officials from BBMP have reported that the amount of sewage flowing into the Koramangala stormwater drain has decreased significantly, from 120 million litres per day (MLD) to approximately 8 MLD, due to the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, nearby residents and businesses are still experiencing a foul odor and the presence of sewage in the water. The K-100 project aims to revamp the 9.2-km stretch of the stormwater drain from KR Market to Bellandur Lake with a budget of Rs 175 crore, with an expected completion date by the end of 2024. Efforts to prevent sewage from entering the drain include a newly established 5 MLD sewage treatment plant and the installation of concrete rings and plants for natural water purification. BWSSB is also constructing a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar to further prevent sewage discharge into the drain. Additional enhancements such as retaining walls, bridges, decorative lighting, landscaping, and service roads with drainage pipelines have already been completed. It was supposed to be completed by 2023, but it missed several deadlines thereafter.
